Jiu-Jitsu FAQ
Jiu-Jitsu is a combat sport, self-defense system, martial art, and fitness program. It focuses on ground fighting, grappling, and positional control to get the opponent to submit by arm locks and chokeholds.
No-Gi means the sport is performed without the traditional uniform. Students usually wear athletic clothing like shorts and rash guards, and fighters cannot grab their opponents’ clothing.
Yes! Jiu-Jitsu uses different leverage techniques to control and submit much larger opponents. In addition to being an efficient form of self-defense, it’s a great full-body workout!

No, we encourage all fitness and experience levels! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never worked out or have taken some time off; you’ll leave the workout feeling great! We encourage everyone to go at their own pace.
Absolutely! You will have a heavy bag to workout on, and sparring is only for advanced students who want to spar.
Yes! We’ll help wrap your hands and teach you the fundamentals of boxing. No need to be intimidated, we teach all skill levels, and everyone goes at their own pace.
Hand wraps are mandatory for class and your protection. We recommend bringing a towel and a water bottle, and prepare to sweat!
The best way to avoid hurting yourself is with proper form, which we will teach you! As you learn the fundamental movements of boxing, you’ll learn to throw different punch variations from different positions.
We recommend wearing comfortable workout apparel and shoes, and remember you are going to sweat! If you don’t have any hand wraps, we have them available for purchase, and we have gloves you can borrow for your first time.
Boxing classes will start with a warm-up, then move into boxing rounds, where you will learn new techniques either on your own or with a trainer. After this, you will finish the class with a core strengthening workout.
